2025/26 Bundesliga Season Guidelines Revealed

The 2022-23 Bundesliga season is set to be a game-changer, as the German Football League (DFL) focuses on innovation and progress. This year, fans can expect an exciting blend of human measures and technological advancements, aiming to make the game even more dynamic and enrich reporting.

One of the key innovations is the introduction of the semi-automatic offside detection technology, which made its debut at the 2022 World Cup and the Champions League. This technology uses special cameras and AI-assisted tracking for real-time analysis of player and ball movements, aiming to clarify offside decisions more quickly and accurately.

The new tracking system, a part of a successful pilot project tested at nine locations last season, captures detailed player movement data, including speed, direction changes, and running paths. This data will not only help in making offside decisions but also offer fans new viewpoints and insights through the RefCam.

The RefCam, already used in selected matches, provides exclusive insights from the perspective of the officials. Its aim is to enrich reporting and offer fans new viewpoints, adding a unique dimension to the viewing experience.

In addition to these technological innovations, the DFL is also focusing on promoting respectful conduct and fair play. Before each game, referees, coaches, and captains will have a brief exchange to encourage a spirit of sportsmanship.

Furthermore, stadium announcements by referees explaining decisions following VAR interventions will be introduced from the first matchday for Bundesliga (22 August) and the 9th matchday for 2nd League (17 October). This move is expected to increase transparency and enhance the fan experience.

While the specific names of referees who will participate with RefCam in selected 2. Bundesliga matches from the 9th matchday onward are not yet disclosed, fans are eagerly awaiting the innovative changes that this season promises. With the focus on innovation and progress, the Bundesliga and 2nd League are set to offer an engaging and immersive viewing experience for football enthusiasts.
