2025/26 Bundesliga Season: The Stipulated Regulations

The 2022-2023 Bundesliga season is set to be an exciting one, as the Football Association of Germany (DFB) and the German Football League (DFL) introduce a series of innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for fans and promoting fair play.

One of the key innovations is the semi-automatic offside recognition technology (Semi-Automated Offside Technology, SAOT). This technology, which has already been used at the 2022 World Cup and in the Champions League, analyses detailed movement data of players, including speed, changes in direction, and running paths. The aim is to clarify controversial offside decisions more quickly and accurately.

In addition to SAOT, the Bundesliga will also introduce stadium announcements by referees explaining decisions live, starting from the first matchday on 22nd August. This initiative is based on a successful pilot project that was tested at nine locations last season.

Another exciting development is the use of AI and special cameras in the Bundesliga's new tracking system. This technology will provide fans with exciting insights, contributing to a more dynamic game. For selected games, the RefCam will be used, offering exclusive insights from the perspective of the officials.

The DFL is also focusing on interpersonal measures to promote respectful interaction and fair play. Before each game, referees, coaches, and captains will meet for a brief exchange in the locker room.

On the pitch, the new season has started with a bang. ASV Hamm-Westfalen, a team based in the city of Hamm, began the new season with a derby win. The city of Hamm was also the location where news about ASV Hamm-Westfalen and a shop thief incident made headlines.

The 2nd league will start stadium announcements on the 9th matchday, on 17th October. The use of these new technologies in the Bundesliga is expected to offer fans a more engaging and dynamic viewing experience.

As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these innovations impact the game and the fan experience. Stay tuned for more updates from the Bundesliga!
