CBSE Class 10 Half Yearly Exams 2025 to Include Case Study-Based Questions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the upcoming Class 10 Half Yearly Exams in 2025 will feature case study-based questions in Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. These questions are designed to assess students' ability to apply their knowledge to real-life situations.

In Mathematics, students can expect to encounter three case study questions in each subject, each worth four marks. The topics covered in these case studies include quadratic equations, trigonometry, probability, and coordinate geometry. For instance, Case Study 1 discusses the importance of quadratic equations in real-life contexts, such as playground design, while Case Study 4 delves into coordinate geometry, asking students to find the midpoint of two points and the slope of the line between them.

Case Study 5, which involves Probability, discusses its significance in ensuring fairness and balance in games and experiments, and in ensuring fair outcomes in a dice game.

Science subjects will also incorporate case studies, with topics ranging from the importance of photosynthesis to the role of electricity in daily life. For example, an experiment in a biology lab might involve testing the effect of sunlight on a potted plant, as demonstrated by the covered leaf showing no starch, while the uncovered part turned blue-black with iodine solution, proving sunlight is essential for photosynthesis.

In Social Science, students will be presented with case studies that reflect current global issues, such as the impact of globalisation on Indian farmers, the role of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and crop insurance in protecting farmers from global fluctuations, and the significance of urbanisation in solid waste production.

To help students prepare for these case study-based questions, the CBSE has made available the CBSE Class 10 Half Yearly Sample Papers 2025 PDF with Solutions for all subjects. Additionally, schools are encouraging students to adopt the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - and to segregate waste, with successful implementation of waste segregation at the household level in cities like Indore.

The total marks from case studies in Mathematics, Science, and Social Science will be 12 marks each, accounting for 15% of the total theory marks in each subject. As students prepare for these exams, it's important to remember that the goal is not just to memorise facts, but to understand how to apply that knowledge to real-life situations.

In conclusion, the introduction of case study-based questions in the CBSE Class 10 Half Yearly Exams 2025 aims to encourage students to think critically and apply their knowledge in practical ways. By doing so, it's hoped that students will develop a deeper understanding of the subjects they are studying and be better equipped to tackle real-world problems in the future.
