It's important to note that the rules regarding alcohol consumption apply equally to e-scooters as they do to cars. Driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration between 0.5% and 1.09% is an administrative offense, resulting in a fine of 500 euros, a one-month driving ban, and two points on one's license. A blood alcohol concentration of 1.1% or higher is considered a criminal offense, regardless of whether the driver exhibits signs of impairment.
At lower blood alcohol concentrations of around 0.3%, a criminal offense is committed if alcohol-related impairment (such as swerving or an alcohol-related accident) is observed.
For those in the probationary period or under 21 years old, driving under the influence of alcohol comes with stricter penalties. They must pay a fine of 250 euros, attend a traffic offender program, and have their probationary period extended from two to four years.
The police remind the public that the safety of all road users is paramount. They urge everyone to respect the rules and to ensure they are not under the influence of alcohol when operating any vehicle, including e-scooters.
