In the evening of Monday, 3rd February 2025, a car caught fire on the A5 motorway near Freiburg, resulting in an estimated property damage of around 8,000 euros.
The incident occurred around 20:45, according to information transmitted by the Police Headquarters Freiburg. The source of the information is news aktuell.
The car, traveling from Freiburg towards Basel, caught fire just after the Neuenburg motorway junction. The driver, a 32-year-old woman, noticed a spark and promptly stopped the car on the hard shoulder. However, the fire continued to spread, and she was unable to prevent it from engulfing the vehicle.
Fortunately, the woman was able to leave the car unharmed. The fire brigade was promptly on the scene to extinguish the fire, but the car was completely burned and had to be recovered.
In addition to the police and fire brigade, the motorway maintenance department was also on site to assist with the extinguishing and clearing work. As a result, the motorway was completely closed during this time.
