Infant heart rates are twice as rapid as those in adults, which inspired a DJ to create the first-ever rave album for infants. Here's the story of the pioneering producer.

"A DJ unveiled a novelty album, catering to the unique energized heartbeat rhythms of infants, named in reference to the fast-paced genre of drum and bass music."

Dublin-based producer Graham Smyth has entered the world of children's music with his latest release, "Music For Babies To Rave And Sleep To". This innovative album, now available on Practise Music, is a departure from traditional nursery rhymes or songs with simple structures.

Inspired by the arrival of a new family member, Smyth aimed to provide electronic music suitable for young people that adults could also enjoy. The percussion in the album is influenced by how young children interact with instruments, with drum 'n' bass inspired beats on the track "Toy Pianonono" reflecting babies' heart rates, which are 50% faster than adults.

The album is divided into two sides, one for stimulating babies and another for helping them sleep. Smyth consulted child psychologists and researched extensively before commencing work on the album. The unique track titles, such as "Toy Pianonono" and "Kalimbarama", were named following the line of thinking that incorporates children's unique pronunciation.

The album was written on piano and kalimba, and includes sounds that mimic the way children naturally make sounds when interacting with instruments. Some adults find it challenging to pronounce these track titles, but Smyth's Bandcamp page provides more details for those interested.

The album was designed to appeal to both babies and their tired parents, making it a perfect addition to any family's music collection. For those looking for a refreshing take on children's music, "Music For Babies To Rave And Sleep To" is definitely worth a listen.
