In a significant meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam, Chairman Phan Đình Trạc received a delegation from the United Left Movement Party of the Dominican Republic. The delegation was led by José Miguel Mejía Abreu, General Secretary and Minister of Regional Integration Policies of the Dominican Republic.

The meeting was a momentous occasion, attended to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) in Vietnam. Miguel Mejía expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnam's leaders.

Miguel Mejía was deeply impressed by the patriotic spirit and joy of the Vietnamese people. He voiced his admiration for Vietnam's heroic struggle for independence and its remarkable achievements over nearly 40 years of Đô̂i môi. Trạc, in turn, expressed appreciation for Miguel Mejía's steadfast friendship with Vietnam for nearly three decades.

Over the past 80 years, Vietnam has achieved historic, comprehensive progress in all fields under the CPV's leadership. The 1945 August Revolution marked the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a testament to the nation's resilience and determination. Trạc reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent foreign policy and expressed gratitude to the people and progressive parties of Latin America, including the Dominican Republic, for their solidarity and support for Vietnam's struggle for independence and reunification.

Trạc proposed maintaining regular contacts and effectively implementing the 2023-2028 cooperation agreement between the CPV and Miguel's party, the MiU. He suggested promoting high-level visits between the CPV and the Dominican Republic, and boosting negotiations and agreements on trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and legal frameworks for long-term cooperation.

Miguel Mejía shared views on global and regional economic-security developments affecting Latin America and the Dominican Republic. He expressed his interest in learning from Vietnam's development and integration experience and affirmed his determination to foster stronger business links between the two countries.

Trạc called for closer cooperation in external communications to promote the legacy of President Hồ Chí Minh in Latin America. He also urged the MiU to serve as a bridge for Vietnamese enterprises to explore investment opportunities in the Dominican Republic and Latin America.

Trạc, who served as a member of the Politburo and the Party Secretariat, emphasised the importance of this meeting in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing their commitment to furthering their relationship in the years to come.
