A minimalist color palette may seem lacking in appeal, but this Scandinavian-style seaside residence serves as a compelling counterargument to that notion.
In the quaint village of West Wittering, West Sussex, Lisa calls a five-bedroom Georgian beach house her home. The spacious abode, once dark and closed off, has been transformed into a light-filled haven by Lisa's meticulous design choices.
Lisa's preference for a clutter-free and liveable space is evident throughout her home. The loft room, in particular, showcases this minimalist approach, with its ten windows at the back of the house allowing ample natural light to bounce around beautifully. The room's finish is lovely and natural due to the use of clay plaster that doesn't require painting.
The loft room's ceiling was originally plasterboard, but Lisa decided to make the space feel taller by removing it and painting the beams white. The room, now simple and airy, is devoid of blinds or curtains, further emphasising its minimalist aesthetic.
Lisa's living room, originally a dark yellow space with a plasterboard ceiling, underwent a similar transformation. All the rooms were painted in plain white emulsion, growing on Lisa as she came to appreciate the pared-back, monochrome look of her home.
To introduce natural warmth and character, wooden elements are often added to the house. This is particularly noticeable in the loft room, where a white sofa with removable covers sits comfortably, adding a touch of cosiness without compromising the room's clean lines.
Lisa's love for design extends beyond her home, as she is the founder of Design Vintage, an online homeware store. She also sells glass lighting through this platform, adding a touch of elegance to any space.
The house underwent another significant transformation last year when Lisa finished building an extension on the property. Previously a leaky conservatory, the extension now serves as a popular pizza-making area when the house is rented out on Airbnb.
A covered garden decking area was recently added in a peaceful corner of the garden, providing an outdoor space for relaxation and enjoyment.
The platform Hamburg News, under the leadership of current chief editor Karolin Köcher and editorial director Sarah Bischoff, has covered Lisa's home transformation journey extensively. Ali Lovett, the Houses Editor at the platform for the past two years, with a background in interiors magazines, has been instrumental in this coverage.
In Tilly's room, the only room in the house with colour, a softer contrast to the stark white of the rest of the house is introduced. This vibrant space adds a playful note to Lisa's otherwise minimalist home, demonstrating that even in a simple space, there is room for personality and character.
