A significant amount of EUR 3.9 million allocated for state-of-the-art aviation ventures in Hamburg
Hamburg, the Hanseatic city, is leading the charge in making aviation more climate-friendly and strengthening its aviation location with the support of the Green Aviation Technologies II (GATE II) funding programme. This initiative, funded by IFB Hamburg with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and in close cooperation with Hamburg Aviation, aims to drive the ecological transformation of aviation not only technologically, but also economically and socially.
One of the projects under the GATE II programme is "Drum View," which is developing an automated cabin inspection system in partnership with ZAL, 3D.aero GmbH, and Technical University (TU) Hamburg. This innovation aims to make maintenance processes more efficient, precise, and sustainable.
Another significant project is "Hydro-Bunny," which seeks to set new standards in unmanned aviation with a mobile system for automated refuelling of drones with liquid hydrogen. This project involves Teccon, ZAL, and TU Hamburg.
Fair Cabin, a sustainable cabin concept with modular, circular components and a focus on ergonomics and crew needs, is also being developed with the support of the GATE II programme. Diehl Aviation and the University of Applied Sciences (HAW) Hamburg are collaborating on this project.
OMCI, in collaboration with ZAL and Lufthansa Technik, is investigating how large-scale cabin components can be manufactured and certified using 3D printing for lighter, recyclable components and lower energy consumption.
Live Scan is developing an interactive AI assistance system for aircraft maintenance to analyse and support maintenance processes in real-time, promoting safety, transparency, and efficiency.
The GATE II funding programme also supports projects in the area of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) processes and hydrogen infrastructure. In addition, it is funding projects in the field of sustainable aircraft systems and cabin innovations.
For more information about these projects, visit hamburg-aviation.de and the GATE II website. However, the search results do not provide information about the companies involved in the "Drum View" project for developing an automated cabin inspection system.
The Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg) is providing up to 3.9 million euros for these projects. Melanie Leonhard, Hamburg's Senator for Economics and Innovation, stated that the GATE II funding programme aims not only to drive the ecological transformation of aviation technologically, but also economically and socially.
These projects underscore Hamburg's commitment to a greener and more innovative future for aviation.
