A stylish French restaurant takes over a townhouse on the Upper East Side

Chez Fifi, a new restaurant in Manhattan's Upper East Side, has opened its doors to diners, offering a unique dining experience that transports patrons to 1930s Paris. The brainchild of brothers Joshua and David Foulquier, who grew up in the neighbourhood, Chez Fifi is a celebration of their French heritage and their mother, Fifi, who the restaurant is named after.

Located in a townhouse on the corner of 74th Street and Lexington Avenue, Chez Fifi welcomes guests with its inviting entrance. The interior design, crafted by the Stockholm-based design firm Joyn Studio, is a masterpiece of elegance and sophistication.

Upon entering the ground-floor dining room, diners are greeted by warm mahogany, navy upholstery, Payne's gray ceiling, and cove lighting, creating an intimate and cosy atmosphere. The room is divided into two sections: one side features booths enclosed by patterned curtains, while the other follows a red banquette with a row of two-tops. A narrow stairway, adorned with thin vertical mirrored strips, leads upstairs to the upper-floor salon.

The upper-floor salon is divided into a compact bar area and a cosy lounge space. The bar area evokes the iconic Loos American Bar in Vienna with its coffered ceiling, while the lounge boasts a curve-cornered ceiling traced with criss-crossed molding details. The bar area also features colorful bookmatched stone with rippled marbling, adding a touch of luxury to the space.

The menu at Chez Fifi offers a combination of classic French dishes and favourites from San Sebastián. Diners can indulge in dishes such as foie gras terrine, jamón Iberico, frogs' legs, Basque deviled crab, filet mignon au poivre, and wild Dover sole.

Helena Eliason, co-founder of Joyn Studio, stated that the project encapsulates their philosophy of creating spaces that put people in the right mood through a deep understanding of culture, behaviour, and sensory elements. The Foulquier brothers discovered Joyn Studio's work through their three-Michelin-starred restaurant, Frantzén, in Stockholm.

Chez Fifi is more than just a restaurant; it's a tribute to the Foulquier brothers' roots and a testament to their love for fine dining. If you're looking for a unique dining experience that transports you to Paris, look no further than Chez Fifi on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
