Accident on A2 Near Varrelheide Rest Area: Two Severely Injured
On Saturday evening, a traffic accident occurred on the A2, heading towards Berlin, at the Varrelheide rest area between the Bothfeld and Lahe exits.
According to the police, a 71-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn. The 68-year-old passenger was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by the fire department using technical equipment.
Both occupants were severely injured and transported to nearby hospitals. The extent of the damage from the accident is not yet known.
The Varrelheide rest area was closed during the operation, but traffic flow on the A2 was not affected. The fire department was on the scene until approximately 7:15 PM and a total of 20 firefighters and emergency service personnel were involved.
