Abandoned Luggage at Dortmund Station Incurs Expensive Fine of €712, According to BPOL NRW.
In an unexpected turn of events, a 23-year-old German man from Werne was taken into custody at Dortmund Central Station on September 3rd. The arrest was the result of two outstanding warrants issued by the Amtsgericht Dortmund (District Court of Dortmund) in January and February 2024.
The warrants were issued due to unpaid fines amounting to a total of 750 euros. The man was sentenced by the Dortmund Local Court in January and February 2024 to a combined total of 75 daily rates of €10 each, or alternatively 47 days in prison.
Upon checking the man's details at the station, the officers discovered the outstanding warrants for his arrest. The Federal Police, along with the Federal Police Inspectorate Dortmund and the Federal Police Directorate Saint Augustine, were involved in the arrest and custody of the man.
After making several phone calls, the convicted person was able to raise the required amount of €712, including costs, and was released from custody. The man was able to leave the station after paying the fine.
It is reported that the individual is homeless. The bag he left at platform 4/5 on September 3rd was found and secured by the Federal Police at Dortmund Central Station.
