Abandoned Luggage at Dortmund Station Leads to 712 Euro Fine by BPOL NRW.
In a series of events at Dortmund Central Station, a forgotten bag on Platform 4/5 led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man who was wanted by the authorities.
On September 3rd, a traveler reported a forgotten bag at the station. Upon investigation, the Federal Police found that the bag belonged to the 23-year-old, who was identified as a homeless man from Werne.
Upon checking his details, the Federal Police discovered that the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The Dortmund Public Prosecutor's Office had been searching for him with two arrest warrants.
The man was served the warrants and taken into custody. He was later sentenced by the Dortmund Local Court. In January 2024, he was fined 45 daily units of €10 each, or 40 days in prison. In February of the same year, he received another sentence of 30 daily units of €10 each, or seven days in prison. After paying a fine of €712, including costs, the man was released from custody.
