Achievement attained once more
In the heart of Hürth-Hermülheim, a significant milestone in the neighborhood's development is approaching. The demolition of the former AOK building, a key part of the urban regeneration project "Luxury Lifeline", is set to begin between late April and early May 2025.
GEBAG, the organisation responsible for the demolition, has meticulously planned the process to minimise disruptions. Demolition will be confined to the property itself, and no additional road closures beyond the existing closure of Luxemburger Straße will be required.
The demolition process will be carried out with maximum consideration for the environment and residents. It will proceed floor by floor, from the top to the bottom, down to the top of the basement. To ensure minimal vibrations, a combination of machinery and manual labour will be used.
Initially, the building will be completely gutted. All materials, including recyclable ones, will be disposed of properly and separately. Potential hazardous materials have already been identified and documented in advance to ensure safe handling.
Once the demolition is complete, a new building, along with a plaza featuring a water play area, ample greenery, and high-quality amenities, will be constructed as part of the "Luxury Lifeline" project.
In a collaborative effort with RWTH Aachen, selected materials will be provided for a research project. Prior to demolition, remaining furniture and fixtures will be sold at a public auction.
This upcoming demolition marks a significant step forward in the transformation of the neighbourhood, signalling a new era of luxury and community in Hürth-Hermülheim. The goal is to completely clear the site by the end of September 2025, paving the way for a brighter future.
