Actor Ashish Kapoor from the TV series 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' Remanded to a 14-Day Spell in Prison on Suspicion of rape involvement: Report.
In a shocking turn of events, actor Ashish Kapoor was arrested on September 2 from Pune in connection with an alleged gang rape case. The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court at Tis Hazari granted four days of police custody to Kapoor on September 3.
The alleged incident occurred in Ashish Kapoor's neighbourhood. According to the complaint, the woman was invited to a party, where her drink was allegedly spiked. She claimed she lost consciousness, after which she was dragged to a washroom and gang-raped. The FIR was filed under relevant sections on charges of rape, gang rape, causing hurt, etc.
Kapil Gupta, a pilot, and Ritu Gupta, a businesswoman, are co-accused in the case. It was reported that the woman initially named other individuals but later revised her statement, accusing only Ashish Kapoor of rape.
Advocates Deepak Sharma, Rajan Oberoi, and Somesh Oberoi appeared for Kapoor during the hearing. The court also allowed the potency test of Kapoor. The Delhi Police filed an application for a 5-day custody remand to investigate the case, including the recovery of Kapoor's mobile phone and to conduct a potency test. However, it was argued that recovery of the mobile phone cannot be effected from Kapoor because it was in the possession of co-accused Kapil Gupta and Ritu Gupta.
Ashish Kapoor was produced before Link Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Payal Singhal a day earlier than scheduled. His application for interim protection from arrest had become infructuous following his arrest in Pune.
The case is being investigated by the police, and Kapoor was remanded in 14 days of judicial custody by Delhi's Tis Hazari Court on Saturday. The public is reminded that all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
