Additional assistance to Ukraine is being provided by Latvia
In a heartwarming display of solidarity, various Latvian municipalities, private individuals, foundations, and businesses have come together to donate essential items to Ukraine. The donations, which include electrical equipment, food, clothing, and other resources, are intended to continue their use in Ukraine as they embark on another cold season during the war.
One of the most valuable contributions is a shipment of electricity transformers, donated by several Latvian municipalities. These transformers, which previously served the Rīga water company, are especially valuable for use in Chernihiv when winter comes. Due to their weight, approximately 3 tonnes each, they cannot all be put on one truck. Six cars from the Riga municipality are also being donated to the Chernihiv region.
Edvards Ratnieks, Vice Mayor of Riga, explained that the donated items can continue their second life in Ukraine. The transformers, along with the cars and computers donated by the Riga City Council, are in good technical condition.
A fire truck from the Latvian municipality of Saldus is also being donated to Ukraine. Sixty computers are being donated to the Ukrainian city of Kherson.
Anatolii Kutsevol, Ukrainian ambassador to Latvia, expressed his gratitude for the donations. He stated, "Everyone who lives in Ukraine understands the importance of energy during periods when there is no energy." He also emphasized that another cold season during the war is approaching.
The Ukrainian city of Chernihiv is expected to receive the donated electricity transformers. Much of the aid from Latvia is directed towards this city. Other municipalities have also donated electrical equipment, food, clothing, and other items to Ukraine.
These donations are a testament to the spirit of unity and support that transcends borders. They offer a glimmer of hope in these challenging times, demonstrating that even in the face of adversity, people can come together to make a difference.
