Administration's DOJ task force alleges discrimination against Christians by the Biden administration
The Biden administration established a Reproductive Rights Task Force in 2022 to protect reproductive healthcare access, while the Department of Justice also took steps to enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, resulting in the arrests of about two dozen people for praying and demonstrating outside abortion facilities.
However, the Department of Justice Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, in a report this year, claimed that the Biden administration discriminated against Christians. The task force found multiple instances of anti-Christian bias in federal agencies, specifically mentioning the State Department.
The task force stated that Christian communities were unlawfully targeted, their beliefs were marginalized, and their political, social, and humanitarian contributions were devalued. The State Department, under Biden, provided limited humanitarian relief to Christians compared to other populations.
The anti-Christian bias unit, which pledged to continue investigating alleged discrimination within the Biden administration and to produce another report by February, did not mention any specific actions taken by the administration to address the alleged anti-Christian bias.
The State Department, under Biden, promoted religious acceptance through the Office of Religious Freedom, which has a stated purpose of supporting the right of every person to believe or not believe, to change their beliefs, speak about their beliefs, and to manifest their beliefs through teaching, practice, worship, and observance. The Office of Religious Freedom still operates in the Trump administration.
Former President Joe Biden expressed support for religious equality during his time in office, but no new information about this support was provided in the report. The Biden administration's stance on religious equality has been a subject of debate, with the anti-Christian bias unit asserting that the federal government will never again be permitted to turn its power against people of faith.
The Reproductive Rights Task Force evaluated state legal actions that impaired women's ability to seek reproductive care and those that infringed on federal protections for healthcare provision. However, the task force's report did not mention any specific actions taken by the Biden administration to address the alleged anti-Christian bias.
Pregnancy counseling services and worship places were not afforded the same protections, according to the task force. The State Department's responses to attacks on Christians relative to other groups were described as "muted" in the report.
Under President Trump and Attorney General Bondi's leadership, the rule of law will be enforced with vigor, and every religion will be treated with equality in both policy and action, according to the unit. The Office of Religious Freedom continues to support this principle, advocating for the right of every person to believe or not believe.
