Advancements in the lake's littoral zone: recent renovation efforts in the park region of Treptow, modernizing the green landscapes
Modernization of Lakeground Park in Berlin-Treptow Underway
Lakeground Park in Berlin-Treptow is currently undergoing a significant transformation, with the aim of creating a climate-resilient and multifunctional recreational green space. This modernization project, which began in October 2023, is being overseen by PLANLAND Landschaftsarchitekten and Keil Landscape Architects.
The project is divided into three construction phases, with the completion scheduled for autumn 2026. The first phase, which focused on initial path connections, commenced in October 2024. Progress is evident, particularly along the main routes of the Lakeground, where new, narrowed path sections have been implemented. These changes not only reduce sealed surfaces but also create additional planting zones and resting spaces.
The second construction phase, starting in April 2025, will focus on the addition of further play and resting areas. Existing tree stocks at the park will be largely preserved to stabilize the microclimate and maintain habitats for birds and insects.
The modernization of the Lakeground also includes ecological upgrades, such as the installation of water-permeable surfaces and the planting of climate-resistant trees. Wildflower meadows are being introduced to further enhance the park's natural beauty.
The initial battlefield investigation was conducted in the western part of the facility in August 2024. The third and final construction phase is scheduled for 2026, during which the remaining sections of the park will be completed.
This modernization project is based on the "Integrated Urban Development Concept" (ISEK) and is closely linked to the open space concept "Green Courtyard Plänterwald". The step-by-step approach allows for the completion of initial sections without closing the entire facility, ensuring that visitors can continue to enjoy the park during the construction process.
The design and approval planning for the green facility and playground at Lakeground park was developed by Keil Landscape Architects from October 2023 to spring 2024. New paving has been laid in some areas of the Lakeground, while the base is being prepared in others.
As the modernization progresses, Lakeground Park in Berlin-Treptow is set to become a vibrant and sustainable recreational space for all to enjoy.
