Aerial Transportation of Dresden's Blood Samples: Speedier Delivery to Lab through Drones
German Copters DLS GmbH Revolutionizes Blood Sample Transportation in Saxony
In an innovative leap for medical logistics, German Copters DLS GmbH, based in Dresden, is revolutionizing the way blood samples are transported across the Free State of Saxony.
Since early May, a 19-kilogram drone has been flying approximately 50 blood samples daily from 14 practices in Dippoldiswalde, Altenberg, and Glashütte to Dresden. This drone, measuring 2.40 meters in length, can complete the 12-minute test route in just 40 minutes by car, highlighting its efficiency.
The drone, overseen by experienced pilot Matea Zivkovic from Croatia, can fly at up to 120 kilometers per hour. Equipped with three SIM cards, it ensures constant reception, enabling it to maintain its autonomy while staying connected.
The use of drones for transporting blood samples saves valuable time and personnel, particularly important during the pandemic when quick and accurate evaluation of blood samples has become crucial. This project underscores Dresden as an innovation hub.
While the drone can fly autonomously, Zivkovic maintains close contact with Philip Büchler, the designer of the device. If obstacles appear on the drone's routine route, such as temporary construction or cranes, Zivkovic receives an alert.
The vision is to deliver samples directly to the window of the respective laboratory. The drone's speed and design ensure the safe delivery of its cargo.
German Copters DLS GmbH plans to fly numerous new individual routes and cover the entire Free State of Saxony in the future. However, permits are necessary for drones to deviate from their routes, except in cases of emergency landing.
This service, spearheaded by Dr. Thomas Kirchner, a specialist and owner of the Medical Laboratory of East Saxony, aims to evaluate samples within a maximum of four hours after collection.
This groundbreaking initiative by German Copters DLS GmbH promises to revolutionize medical logistics, making it faster, more efficient, and safer for everyone involved.
