Aerospace division of GE plans to inject US$75 million into the growth of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) sector across Asia-Pacific region.
GE Aerospace has announced a significant investment in its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) and component repair facilities across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The investment, part of a multi-year $1 billion MRO investment program first unveiled in 2024, aims to meet the strong demand for services across the GE Aerospace and CFM installed base in the APAC region.
A key component of this investment will be the establishment of a new facility in Malaysia, equipped with advanced systems and machinery operating to industry-leading safety and quality standards. This facility will specialise in CFM56 and CFM LEAP engines, with capacity for LEAP engine shop visits set to double within the next three years. To support this expansion, an state-of-the-art engine test center, dedicated to LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, will be established.
In Singapore, GE Aerospace's Seletar Aerospace Park site will be transformed into a state-of-the-art repair technology research facility. The Singapore facility, which currently handles over 60% of global repair volume for GE Aerospace, will act as a technology incubator, enhancing repair capabilities through greater use of additive manufacturing, robotics, automation, and digitalization. The implementation of these new technologies is already underway in both Singapore and Malaysia.
The investment will also fund projects in Malaysia, GE Aerospace's flagship overhaul site in Asia. These projects are expected to reaffirm GE Aerospace's commitment to powering and optimizing flight ambitions in the APAC region, while supporting the addition of engine test cells, new equipment, and advanced technology, including AI-enabled inspection methods.
The upgrades are designed to shorten turnaround times for customers and broaden component repair capabilities across GE Aerospace's MRO facilities. The local workforce in Singapore will be upskilled due to the implementation of new technologies, further strengthening the company's presence in the region.
The transformations in Singapore and Malaysia are expected to be completed in 2026, with the investment reaffirming GE Aerospace's long-term commitment to the APAC region. Despite the available search results not providing information about the leader of the Assembly, Test, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul unit of GE Aerospace, it is clear that the company is committed to staying at the forefront of the MRO industry in the APAC region.
