After an accident on highway 66: driver hospitalized with injuries, extensive damage noted - ongoing repair work on bridge guardrails
In an unexpected turn of events, a significant traffic disturbance occurred this afternoon on the A66 motorway near the junctions of Steinau and Schlüchtern-Süd. The incident involved a Porsche 911 Carrera, driven by a 59-year-old man from the Aschaffenburg area.
Initial investigations suggest that a tire on the vehicle may have burst, causing the driver to lose control. The car scraped along the central reservation for several meters before colliding with the right-hand reservation and a bridge parapet. Unfortunately, the impact caused parts of the bridge parapet to fall onto the L3179 road below.
Traffic on the motorway was rerouted over the left lane, causing a long tailback. The accident resulted in the partial closure of the motorway and a full closure during the cleanup operation. Repairs to the crash barrier and bridge parapet are ongoing, and it is expected that the repairs will be completed by the evening.
