Aging milestone reached by Hallervorden: "The flames of youth persist"

On the brink of his 90th birthday on September 5, 2023, German actor and cabaret artist Dieter Hallervorden reflects on his illustrious career, personal aspirations, and the important role of free expression in his life.

Born and raised in Germany, Hallervorden has made a significant impact on the German entertainment industry, particularly with his former slapstick figure "Didi." Known for his work in theatre, television, and film, Hallervorden's career began in the 1970s when he wrote television history with the series "Nonstop Nonsens."

As he looks towards the future, Hallervorden shares that there are two destinations he has yet to visit: Japan and China.

Throughout his career, Hallervorden has faced challenges and obstacles, including stage fright, even after many years in the business. To overcome this, he imagines a picture of his wife Christiane by the makeup mirror before his performances, reminding him of "more important things than a slip of the tongue."

Hallervorden's work has not been without controversy. In the past, he has faced criticism for using certain words in his performances, which some have deemed discriminatory. However, he has defended his performances as satire and emphasizes the importance of expressing his own opinion, stating that he forms it "without regard for advantages or disadvantages of a political or private nature."

Despite political differences, Hallervorden acknowledges the power of unity. He plans to participate in a large protest in Berlin under the motto "Stop the Genocide in Gaza! No Weapons in War Zones! Peace Instead of Arms Race!" along with BSW chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht.

Hallervorden's contributions to the German entertainment industry extend beyond his performances. He has been involved in theatre ownership, founding the cabaret stage "Die Wühlmäuse" in Berlin and opening the Mitteldeutsches Theater in the Marienkirche in Dessau in 2022.

As he prepares for his 90th birthday, a surprise gala evening has been planned by friends and colleagues at the Schlosspark Theater. Hallervorden will take on the leading role in Molière's "The Imaginary Invalid" at the premiere on his birthday.

Throughout his career, Hallervorden has left an indelible mark on German entertainment. His performances in films such as "His Last Race" and "Honig im Kopf" have earned him critical acclaim, with the latter garnering him a German Film Prize for his role as the Alzheimer's-stricken grandfather.

Classic sketches like "Palim, Palim" and "Kuh Elsa" from the series "Nonstop Nonsens" have achieved cult status for many, cementing Hallervorden's place in German entertainment history. As he looks towards the future, it is clear that Dieter Hallervorden's legacy will continue to inspire and captivate audiences for years to come.
