Agriculturist G. Castelli from the Lega party declares proposed remedy to protect San Paolo field in the morning newspaper.
Napoli's Grass Woes: Cold Weather Affects San Paolo Stadium
Napoli is set to play most of their games at the San Paolo stadium this month, both in the league and the Italian Cup. However, the cold temperatures have taken a toll on the field, causing some areas to be different in colour and quality.
The ongoing cold weather, the lowest in the last thirty years, has affected the Naples stadium. The grass at Fuorigrotta in San Paolo is one of the best in Italy, but is currently not in ideal condition due to either being too hot or too cold. In particular, frost has burned certain areas of the field, making a swift return to normal impossible without specific intervention.
Giovanni Castelli, an agronomist for Serie A, has been enlisted to address the grass issue at Fuorigrotta. He suggests covering the grass with anti-rain tarpaulins as a temporary solution to protect the ground. This measure, commonly used to protect the grass from rain, guarantees total protection of the ground and provides a temporary solution to the current problem.
Forecasts predict more cold for a few weeks, with a brief interlude in a few days, which coincides with the home games of the Napoli. Despite this, the problem with the grass condition is expected to persist as long as the cold weather continues.
In Italy, common heating systems include under-soil heating systems using hot water or electric cables, which could provide higher temperatures for the grass surface of the San Paolo stadium in Naples. However, these systems are only available in the northern regions of Italy, not in Naples or the south.
Coach Sarri has complained about the condition of the grass after a game against Sampdoria. The ongoing cold weather may potentially impact Napoli's performance in upcoming matches.
As Napoli prepares for their upcoming games, they will continue to play most of their games at San Paolo, with the hope that the brief warm-up in the forecast will help improve the condition of the field. The agronomist, Giovanni Castelli, will continue to work on finding a long-term solution to the problem.
