In a significant return to activism, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has embarked on a new mission, joining the "Global Sumud Flotilla." This flotilla, aiming to break the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, set sail from Barcelona, Spain on Sunday afternoon.

The flotilla, consisting of approximately 20 boats carrying around 300 pro-Palestinian activists, including Thunberg, is the largest such action to date. The Arabic term "Sumud" meaning steadfastness, symbolises the determination of the participants.

However, the journey faced a setback due to bad weather, leading to its suspension. The organizers announced the suspension on Instagram, expressing hope for a resumption as early as Monday evening.

Thunberg's participation in the flotilla marks her return to activism following the "Madleen" incident. Previously, her solidarity action on the "Madleen" ended in failure, with her and other activists being expelled from the ship around 200 kilometers off the Gaza Strip's coast. The "Madleen" was subsequently taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod.

Israel has consistently prevented activists from breaking the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. An earlier attempt by an Italian ship to break the blockade failed in July. The speaker of the Global Sumud Flotilla is not explicitly named in the available search results, but the flotilla includes notable participants such as Thunberg.

The flotilla's goal is to deliver aid to the coastal region, which has been under a naval blockade for years. The flotilla's resumption, scheduled for Monday evening, will mark a renewed effort to challenge the blockade and bring aid to the people of Gaza.
