The Ammertalbahn, a public transport system in Germany, has implemented a replacement service between Tübingen and Herrenberg (district of Böblingen) due to sudden wear and tear affecting both the wheel sets of the trains and the infrastructure on the line.

According to a statement from the Ammertal public transport association, the trains are being taken to a workshop in Ulm, Germany, for repairs. The Train Maintenance Facility Ulm (Zugwerk Ulm) is responsible for the maintenance of the damaged trains.

However, the repairs are facing challenges due to ongoing construction works on nearby tracks in Ulm. As a result, buses are currently being used as a replacement for the trains on the Ammertalbahn.

Passengers are advised to check departure times, as the replacement service is expected to continue at least until mid-September. From the weekend, a rail replacement service with fixed departure times will be implemented.

The cause of the sudden wear and tear on the Ammertalbahn has not yet been identified. The company responsible for the maintenance of the damaged trains is working diligently to address the issue and restore normal service as soon as possible.

In the meantime, passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time. The Ammertal public transport association appreciates the understanding and patience of its passengers during this disruption.
