AirAsia bolsters Cebu operations with the reactivation of 5 flight connections

AirAsia Philippines is set to expand its operations, coinciding with the start of the peak travel season, as it reopens three domestic and two international routes starting November 15, 2025.

The reopened routes include flights from Mactan Cebu International Airport to Iloilo, Caticlan, Davao, Kuala Lumpur, and Macau. This move is in line with the Department of Tourism's report of 5.1 million tourist arrivals in Central Visayas in 2024, indicating a strong demand for travel in the region.

The expansion aims to meet the rising demand during the peak travel season and connect more travelers to major leisure destinations. To facilitate this growth, AirAsia Philippines has ramped up recruitment of new pilots, cabin crew, and ground staff who will be deployed to Cebu, its critical hub due to its strong tourist traffic.

The pilots newly recruited for AirAsia Philippines' expanded Cebu hub are part of a flight deck recruitment launched over three weeks, attracting hundreds of applicants. They undergo rigorous exams, interviews, and simulator assessments, with training expected to begin in the second week of September 2025. Their official work for AirAsia Philippines' Cebu hub operations will start with the launch of flights on November 15, 2025.

Ticket sales for the reopened routes will begin on September 3, 2025, via the Move app and airasia.com. The reopening of these routes is expected to spur travel demand and support the local economy, as mentioned earlier. Additionally, it is expected to support job generation in tourism and aviation.

AirAsia Philippines will use its Airbus A320 fleet for these flights, as mentioned earlier. The reopening of these routes is a significant step in AirAsia Philippines' growth in the Philippines, with Cebu being a key driver of its growth.

This expansion is not only beneficial for AirAsia Philippines but also for the local communities along these routes. The increased travel demand will boost the local economy and provide opportunities for job creation, making travel more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
