Airline giant Etihad announces historic half-year profit and surge in passenger count
In a notable development, Etihad Airways, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has reported exceptional financial performance and continued passenger growth. The airline's Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, has commented on these remarkable achievements.
July 2025 saw Etihad Airways adding five more aircraft to its fleet, including a new Airbus A321LR. This expansion was driven by a surge in customer demand, productivity gains, and improved yields across both passenger and cargo segments.
The first half of 2025 witnessed Etihad carrying 10.2 million passengers, marking a significant 17% year-on-year increase. This growth positions Etihad as the fastest-growing carrier in the region and has propelled the airline to surpass the milestone of 20 million passengers carried over the preceding 12 months, an achievement reached early in July.
The increased passenger numbers were supported by a 14% rise in available seat kilometres (ASK) and an improved load factor of 87%. Total revenue rose by 16% year-on-year, with passenger revenue increasing by 16% and cargo revenue increasing by 9%.
Etihad's growth strategy and the dedication of its people have demonstrated success, as the airline is expanding sustainably while investing in premium experiences and growing its network. In May, Etihad confirmed an agreement with Boeing for an order of 28 wide-body aircraft, modernizing their long-haul operations with advanced, fuel-efficient wide-body jets.
This upgrade includes new aircraft orders such as Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787-10. July 2025 marked the highest number of deliveries received by Etihad in a single month, reflecting the airline's commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet.
In April, Etihad received delivery of its sixth Airbus A350, and in May, a seventh A380 returned to service for Etihad Airways. As of July 2025, Etihad's operating fleet consists of over 100 aircraft.
The agreement with Boeing underscores Etihad's long-term growth and connectivity ambitions. Etihad Airways' record profits of AED 1.1 billion (US$ 306 million) in the first six months of 2025 represent a 32% increase compared to the same period last year. These impressive figures highlight Etihad Airways' resilience and adaptability in the ever-evolving aviation industry.
