Alcaraz aims for surprising victory against Sinner in the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are set to face off once again in the US Open, with the Spanish sensation aiming to end Sinner's Grand Slam streak. Alcaraz, the 22-year-old rising star, is preparing for the tournament with optimism, feeling much better compared to last year.

Alcaraz's US Open title bid begins on Monday against Reilly Opelka in the first round. However, the real spotlight will be on his potential clash with Sinner, the current world number one, who is aiming to win back-to-back US Open titles.

Their rivalry has become a significant focus in men's tennis in recent seasons. Alcaraz and Sinner have already faced off in two Grand Slam finals this year, with their most recent Grand Slam encounters favouring Alcaraz. He defeated Sinner in an epic five-set quarter-final at the 2022 US Open, and won their most recent encounter at the French Open in June. Sinner, however, managed to turn the tables at Wimbledon.

Despite their competitive matches, Alcaraz and Sinner maintain a mutual respect for each other and a positive relationship off the court. They both acknowledge that their matches elevate the competition to the highest level.

Alcaraz, who recently beat Sinner in the Cincinnati Open final, expressed his intention to continue this winning streak at the US Open. He has not lost a Grand Slam hardcourt match since being defeated in the fourth round of the US Open two years ago.

Sinner, on the other hand, has a target on his back due to his recent success in Grand Slam tournaments. He is aiming to make history by winning back-to-back US Open titles.

Notable men's matches in the first round of the US Open 2025 include Jannik Sinner vs. Vit Kopriva, Carlos Alcaraz vs. Reilly Opelka, and Alexander Zverev vs. Alejandro Tabilo. On the women's side, top seeds like Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff are playing, but specific first-round opponents were not fully listed.

Alcaraz feels hungry to play in Cincinnati after taking additional rest, and believes he is better prepared for this year's US Open tournament due to having more time to rest and recharge. He did not have to manage the additional demands of an Olympic tournament in the lead-up to this year's US Open, unlike his 2021 performance, where he suffered an early exit in the second round.

As the US Open approaches, the tennis world eagerly awaits the potential showdown between Alcaraz and Sinner. Will Alcaraz continue his winning streak against Sinner, or will Sinner defend his US Open title? Only time will tell.
