Alcohol-free city center adopted for Bad Kreuznach
In the picturesque city of Bad Kreuznach, an alcohol-free zone will be established between Salinenplatz and the House of City History later this week. This move is part of the city's ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and protect youth during the Carnival season.
The decision to introduce this zone has been driven by concerns over excessive alcohol consumption and the subsequent increase in public disturbances, drug use, and assaults, particularly around a supermarket on Mannheimer Street.
Markus Schlosser, the independent department head, has expressed his concern, stating, "This cannot continue." He emphasised that the alcohol-free zone is a necessary step to address the problem.
The city administration has drafted an ordinance for the alcohol ban, which will be enforced during Carnival. Employees of the public order office will be able to intervene if someone opens a beer bottle in the designated alcohol-free zone.
However, it's important to note that the city does not intend to simply displace the affected individuals. Street workers and organisations like "Bastgässjer" or "Treffpunkt Reling" will continue to engage in dialogue with those affected, working to de-escalate the situation and find solutions.
This is not a new initiative for Bad Kreuznach. The city has been enforcing an alcohol ban during Carnival for several years, primarily for reasons of youth protection and public safety. The ban has been enforced around the train station and in large parts of the city centre.
A roundtable discussion was held between the city, police, and street workers to address the issue. The discussion was not limited to the establishment of the alcohol-free zone, but also included strategies for addressing public disturbances, drug use, and assaults.
Organisations like "Bastgässjer" and "Treffpunkt Reling" have been instrumental in helping to de-escalate the situation in the alcohol-free zone. Their involvement demonstrates the city's commitment to working collaboratively to find solutions.
The alcohol ban during Carnival in Bad Kreuznach is aimed at ensuring public safety and protecting youth. While it may affect some, the city's focus is on creating a safer environment for all.
