Algeria suffers a defeat at the hands of Morocco in a match held in Guinea, yet remains relatively optimistic about qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria's World Cup dreams are still very much alive, as they secured a valuable point against Guinea in their latest match. The draw means that Algeria now leads Uganda and Mozambique by four points in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches.

The match, which took place in Casablanca, was not particularly spectacular, but Algeria's defense held firm against Guinea's attacks. Aissa Mandi led the backline, showing signs of strength after a recent period of weakness. Goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz also played a crucial role, making several key saves to keep the score level.

Despite the positive result, Algeria could potentially host the match against Somalia for an additional advantage. However, the venue for the match is yet to be determined. A win in that match would secure Algeria's spot in the next round.

Vladimir Petkovic, the Croatian-Swiss former football player and current coach of the Algerian national team, noted that Riyad Mahrez isn't yet at his best. Mahrez, who has been a key player for Algeria in recent years, was not at his usual brilliant best in this match.

Meanwhile, Guinea has a low chance of finishing as the best runner-up in the group. The West African nation lacks a suitable stadium, which has hindered their chances of progressing in the competition. Somalia also faces similar challenges, making it difficult for them to compete against the more established teams in the group.

In other matches, Uganda and Mozambique also won their matches today. Algeria's victory over Guinea was their only victory in the group stage so far, but they have shown signs of improvement in recent matches.

As the competition heats up, Algeria will look to build on their positive result against Guinea and secure their place in the World Cup. The next match against Somalia will be a crucial test for the team, but they will be confident of coming out on top.
