New Political Party Establishes Presence in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, a new political party in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, has completed the setup of its party structures in the region. The party now has district associations in all six districts and the two independent cities of Rostock and Schwerin.

The party was launched at the beginning of 2024 and has been rapidly expanding its presence. The last district association was established in Waren on the Müritz, marking a significant milestone in the party's development in the region.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance narrowly missed entering parliament in the early federal election in February 2025. Despite this setback, the party has shown resilience and determination, setting a goal to enter the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the next state election, scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The party's state chairpersons in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are Melanie Dango and Friedrich Straetmanns. Straetmanns, a former Left Party politician and former state secretary in the Schwerin Ministry of Justice, was temporarily retired in July.

The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state association was established in December of last year. Since then, the party has been working diligently to build its structures in the region. This recent development was confirmed by the establishment of the last district association in Waren on the Müritz.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance plans to nominate itself for the state election after the federal party conference of the BSW (the abbreviation for the party will remain the same after the name change) in December. The party also intends to change its name at the federal party conference on December 6 and 7 in Magdeburg. The state party conference for the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will take place at the beginning of 2026.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance is a political party in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with approximately 180 members in the region. The party's establishment in all districts and cities of the region marks a significant step towards achieving its goal of entering the state parliament.
