Amazon executive Krishan Bhatia, instrumental in expanding the company's influence in TV Upfronts, announces departure
Krishan Bhatia, a senior executive who joined Amazon last year to help build its presence in the advertising industry, has left the company. His departure was previously reported by Ad Age.
During his tenure at Amazon, Bhatia was heavily involved in the company's efforts to win sponsorships and support for its media and content properties, which include Prime Video and Twitch. His work was part of a growing trend among TV companies, as they seek alternative methods of counting viewership as audiences move to on-demand streaming.
Bhatia was instrumental in Amazon's aggressive approach during Upfront Week, a Monday reserved for pitches from NBCUniversal and Fox Corp. He oversaw the setup of a sales presentation on the first day of the event. His work also focused on striking e-commerce and data partnerships with advertisers.
Amazon's media and content properties have seen significant growth in upfront commitments, with the company recently exceeding its own expectations in commitments from new and existing advertisers. This growth is attributed to interest from advertisers in Amazon's new NBA rights.
In addition to his work at Amazon, Bhatia was a confidant of Linda Yaccarino, the former NBCU ad-sales chairman. He was also involved in developing new systems of audience measurement at NBCUniversal, where he was a senior executive before joining Amazon.
A joint industry committee, backed by major U.S. media companies, was supported by Bhatia. The committee gave early nods to technology from Comscore and VideoAmp, as part of an effort to find alternative methods of counting viewership in the shifting media landscape.
Bhatia's work at Amazon also involved building a sales team and new revenue systems and infrastructure. However, he declined to comment on his departure.
Despite his departure, the impact of Bhatia's work at Amazon is evident in the company's increased presence in the advertising industry. As of now, there are no available search results providing information about Bhatia's current workplace after leaving Amazon.
