The AC Cobra 4.7-Liter Two-Seat Competition Hardtop Coupe, a legendary sports-car model, is set to be auctioned by Bonhams on September 13. Known as '13 COB', this vehicle embodies period originality, eligibility, long-term responsible ownership, contemporary design, and a history of wins.

Chassis No. CS 2131, one of only five early right-hand drive AC Cobra chassis built before November 1963, has a rich and storied history. It was raced by the AC Cars factory team at the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it finished an impressive seventh place. Ninian Sanderson and Peter Bolton were the drivers behind the wheel during this historic race.

This iconic Cobra is equipped with a 440 hp, 4.7-liter Hi-Po V-8 engine and has covered 2,592 miles at an average speed of 108 mph, touching 160 mph on the Mulsanne Straight during the race. Neil Bainbridge of BS Motorsport conducted forensic magneto-photographic analysis of chassis No. CS 2131 in September 2024, confirming its original identity as the seventh-place finisher at the 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Cobra has been a frequent participant in bygone-era motorsport events such as the Modena Centro Ore and Le Mans Classic, even after being with the same owner since 2000, who happens to be none other than racing legend Peter Brock. The last owner of this 1966 AC Cobra 4.7-Liter Two-Seat Competition Hardtop Coupe has meticulously preserved its originality and period-correct preparation, making it ideal for Historic Le Mans, the Goodwoods, and other such eligible premier-league events.

The AC Cobra 4.7-Liter Two-Seat Competition Hardtop Coupe, chassis No. CS 2131, is now presented as it was dressed when racing under the Bell & Colvill team. Its detailed history is available on the AC Cars website for those interested in learning more about this extraordinary vehicle.

With its exceptional provenance and racing pedigree, the AC Cobra 4.7-Liter Two-Seat Competition Hardtop Coupe, chassis No. CS 2131, is expected to fetch as much as $2.7 million at Bonhams' Goodwood Revival: Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia sale. This auction presents a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of motorsport history.
