Ancient Orăștie Fortress in Western Romania Resumes Operations Following Extensive Restoration Efforts
The medieval Oraștie Fortress in western Romania, a significant historical site, has been reopened to the public after undergoing conservation and restoration. This grand structure, built around the year 1300, is now accessible to all visitors until August 24, 2021, free of charge.
The project to restore the Oraștie Fortress commenced ten years ago as part of the local administration's plans for the protected center of the town. The total project value was RON 25.4 million (EUR 5 million), with EU funds accounting for RON 19.5 million.
The reopening of the fortress was marked by an Open Doors Day, historical reenactments, weapon handling demonstrations, and medieval theater. The event was documented by a photo taken by Ovidiu Balan, the mayor of the locality.
