Anticipated Trump Administration's Stance on Climate Change and the Environment

In his first and second terms, former President Donald Trump implemented a series of policies that significantly impacted the environmental landscape in the United States.

One of the most notable changes was the slashing of the budget of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during his first term. This move raised concerns about the future of environmental protection and regulation in the country.

Trump also announced a "national energy emergency," which granted him the authority to limit environmental regulations on oil firms. Critics argued that these measures would lead to increased national emissions and pollutants, exacerbating global warming.

Another significant policy change was the replacement of Obama's Clean Power Plan. This initiative, which mandated states to reduce carbon emissions, was replaced with measures that were seen as less stringent.

Trump's administration also targeted the electric vehicle (EV) industry by removing emission standards and tax credits. This move was met with opposition from environmental and climate protection groups, as it was seen as a step backwards in the fight against climate change.

Perhaps one of the most controversial decisions made by Trump was the withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, an international treaty aimed to combat climate change. Trump claimed that this move could save America "trillions of dollars." However, many criticized this decision, arguing that it undermined global efforts to address climate change.

Despite these challenges, opportunities for progress in fighting climate change remain. For instance, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has expressed optimism about halting climate change.

Individuals who wish to fight environmental deregulation can contact local representatives, join advocacy groups, or donate to relevant organizations. Environmental and climate protection groups opposing President Trump’s environmental policies in the United States include organisations such as the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and various grassroots activists. These groups challenge the administration’s denial of climate change and the dismantling of environmental protections. International and faith-based organisations like Brot für die Welt have also called for increased political efforts for climate protection, often criticizing the Trump administration’s stance.
