In the picturesque wine regions of Baden and Württemberg, Germany, preparations are underway for the much-anticipated 2025 vintage overview. The event, which will take place in the southern Baden town of Müllheim, will be jointly hosted by the Baden Winegrowers' Association and the Minister of Agriculture, Peter Hauk (CDU).
Holger Klein, the association manager of the Baden Winegrowers' Association, has shared that the necessary ripening boost in the vineyard was brought about by much sunshine in August. This positive climatic condition has led to an early start of the main harvest for the grape variety Müller-Thurgau and Spätburgunder in Baden, a week earlier than usual.
However, the weather has been a cause for concern in Baden, with rain posing a potential threat during the ongoing grape harvest. Conversely, Württemberg is currently behind schedule with its harvest, providing information on the harvest on September 19.
Last year, weather issues led to a significant decline in wine production in Baden and Württemberg. This year, Baden anticipates a better vintage compared to last year, with the grapes in the vineyards currently reported to be healthy. Unfortunately, the Statistical Office of the State has reported a significant decrease in wine production in Württemberg.
The Winegrowers' Association of Württemberg will also be providing information on their harvest. No specific date for the harvest in Württemberg has been announced yet.
Minister of Agriculture Peter Hauk, a member of the CDU party, will be present at the event to provide insights into the 2025 vintage. The event promises to provide a comprehensive overview of the wine production in the two regions for the year.
