Apple Unveils the 2024 iMac: Exterior Remains Unchanged, Yet Packed with Enhanced Internal Hardware
The tech giant, Apple, has announced the launch of its latest iMac models, offering improved performance and design. The new iMac is available for preorder starting from Monday, with shipping set to begin on Nov. 8.
The new iMac comes in the same colour options as the previous model, including blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver. The base model starts at $1,300, while more expensive models come with an ethernet port.
In terms of connectivity, the new iMac offers four Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports in models starting at $1,500. The lower-end model only has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. The new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad for the new iMac come with USB-C, allowing them to be charged through one of the four USB-C ports on the rear of the new iMac.
Performance-wise, the new iMac is around 1.7 times faster than the previous model in CPU performance and more than two times better in GPU performance. The base model of the new iMac comes with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU. All new iMac models come with 16 GB of RAM, with a version available for $1,900 that offers 24 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage.
However, Apple has not released a version of the new iMac with the M4 Pro chip. Instead, they are launching a more powerful 24-inch iMac with the M4 chip.
Apple has also launched macOS 15.1 on Monday, which includes the all-new Writing Tools using AI for proofreading, summarizing, or rewriting text. Additionally, the new macOS 15.1 integrates ChatGPT directly with Siri and includes AI image generation with Image Playground.
The announcement of the new iMac is not the only news from Apple this week. The company is also expected to unveil new desktops and laptops. Furthermore, Apple is set to launch the iPhone 17 series (iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new iPhone Air), new AirPods Pro 3 with active noise cancellation, and the latest Apple Watch models.
