Appreciative Greetings from Kyiv: Zelensky's Communication for Melania Trump

In a poignant turn of events, Melania Trump, the former First Lady of the United States, has penned a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to consider the plight of children forcibly removed to Russia or Russian-occupied territories since the 2022 attack on Ukraine.

According to reports, around 19,500 Ukrainian children have been taken away, with about 1,500 having returned. The issue has become a cause close to the hearts of two first ladies, Melania Trump and Olena Zelenska, the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In her letter, Melania emphasised the importance of protecting the innocence of children and creating a world where every soul may wake to peace. She thanked Olena Zelenska for her compassion and advocacy in the matter.

The letter was a personal moment during a White House meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, Melania's husband. The meeting, also attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and several European heads of government, took place in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 10, 2023.

Valerii Krut, a 72-year-old Ukrainian grandfather, expressed that Ukrainians feel the pain of the abducted children who have lost their homeland and parents. Sofia Muravytska, a 19-year-old student, stated that these children are the future of Ukraine.

Russia, however, denies wrongdoing, claiming that children were evacuated for their safety. Despite this, Melania's letter to Putin expressed the belief that he could end the conflict in Ukraine by returning the abducted children and serving humanity as a whole.

Donald Trump stated that Melania has a strong affection for children and desires to see an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The letter exchange between Melania and Putin occurred days after Trump met Putin in Anchorage, but no ceasefire agreement was reached.

Following the meeting, Melania's letter to Putin was shared by the White House over the weekend, drawing laughter from the US President and gathering press. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also posted about the human cost of the war in Ukraine and the need for the return of abducted children, thanking Trump for his commitment to ensuring their safe return to their families.

This heartfelt plea from Melania Trump serves as a reminder of the human cost of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the hope for a peaceful resolution that prioritises the welfare of its children.
