Arrest Made in Attempted Fraud Case Against an Elderly Woman in Unna, Poland by UN Authorities
A 47-year-old German man from Gladbeck has been arrested in connection with a fraud attempt targeting a 76-year-old woman from Unna. The suspect is also accused of an administrative offense for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The incident was reported on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The senior resident, who recognised the scam, promptly contacted the Unna Circular Police Authority's emergency number. Police officers from the Unna Circular Police Authority identified the suspect in a vehicle near the 76-year-old's residence and arrested him around 23:00.
The suspect was appointed lawyer Jens Hartmann as his defense attorney on the instruction of the Dortmund public prosecutor on Thursday, July 30, 2025. He was released on Wednesday afternoon, July 30, 2025, at the request of the Dortmund Public Prosecutor's Office.
The fraud attempt was carried out by an unknown male caller with a suppressed number, claiming to be a police officer. The caller questioned the elderly woman about valuable items in her apartment and instructed her to leave a bag of valuable items on her property for pickup.
