Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation (Reutlingen)
A 58-year-old Italian man, accused of murdering his mother in Reutlingen, appeared before the Tübingen District Court on Thursday afternoon. The suspect, who has not yet had a trial date set, was initially taken into custody and placed in a psychiatric facility following the incident on Wednesday evening, August 20, 2025.
The tragic event unfolded in the suspect's mother's apartment in Reutlingen. Police officers, who were the first on the scene, provided first aid to the victim, but despite immediate medical attention, she did not survive the attack. The suspect, who appeared to be in a state of mental distress, inflicted fatal stab wounds on his mother.
The responding emergency services encountered difficulties gaining entry to the building, and the officers had to use force to enter the apartment. The suspect's strong resistance led to the use of pepper spray. Five police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident. One officer was unable to continue his duty due to the circumstances.
The Public Prosecutor's Office Tübingen and the Reutlingen Police Headquarters are currently investigating the case. The criminal police investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and the exact course of the crime. After the crime, the suspect retreated to the balcony of the building, where he was temporarily arrested after overpowering him.
Following the court appearance, the judge issued a detention order, and the suspect was admitted to a psychiatric specialist clinic for further evaluation and treatment.
