Arrest of Individual Smuggling High-Value Liquor on a Scooter in Indore, India
In two separate incidents, the Madhya Pradesh Excise Department has successfully thwarted illegal liquor transportation operations, seizing a significant amount of alcohol and making arrests.
In the first instance, a truck transporting English liquor worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh was caught in the Dwarkapuri area. The truck, loaded with parcels of sarees from the city, was being carried to Gujarat. The driver, Vinod Sonkar, was unable to present a license or documents for carrying liquor, leading to his detainment. The truck was stopped by a team led by Dwarkapuri police station in charge Sushil Patel on the instructions of DCP (zone-4) Anand Kaladagi. Head constable Badri Singh Jamra, Seema Bhuriya, and Yogesh Kumar Mohaviya played a commendable role during the action.
The arrested driver allegedly informed the police that the liquor was being transported to Gujarat. Information about the transporter, consigner, and consignee is being gathered, and the truck owner will also be questioned regarding the illegal transportation of the liquor.
In a separate incident, a man named Kumar Gautam was arrested in Indore for illegally transporting liquor on a scooter. The arrest was made in the Kacchi Mohalla area by excise sub-inspector Bhagwandas Ahirwar. Kumar Gautam was caught transporting 200 quarter bottles of plain country liquor in four cartons on an unregistered two-wheeler (Activa scooter). The liquor seized is estimated to be worth around Rs 80,000. Kumar Gautam was produced before the court and sent to police remand for two days.
A case was registered against Kumar Gautam under Section 34(1)(A) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, 1915. No prior context was provided about the Bhupendra Raghuvanshi suicide case or the liquor worth Rs 2.5 lakh being transported to Gujarat. These are separate incidents not mentioned in the provided paragraph.
The arrests were part of a special drive conducted by the excise department under the leadership of Devesh Chaturvedi and Jaisingh Thakur. The department continues its efforts to combat illegal liquor transportation and uphold the law in the state.
