Arrest of suspects implicated in robbery at Ebertplatz reportedly by means of video surveillance
In Cologne on the night of August 15th, a 26-year-old man found himself in a distressing situation. The incident occurred at Ebertplatz, where the man, heavily intoxicated, had an argument with two suspects around 1:10 AM.
According to reports, the suspects allegedly attacked the man, resorting to kicking and punching. During the attack, they snatched a chain from the man's neck. The exact nature of the argument that led to the altercation remains unclear.
The suspects, aged 23 and 30, are of Algerian origin, and were apprehended by police officers in the same location later that night. The two witnesses who observed the altercation have not been named or specifically identified in the available sources.
In the aftermath of the attack, the suspects hid in the underpass near Neusser Straße. However, they were not apprehended at the location where the stolen goods were found. Instead, officers, aided by a police dog, discovered parts of the stolen goods, including the chain, near the wooden roundabout. The remaining stolen goods were hidden near the same location.
The chain, which was stolen during the attack, has since been recovered by the police. The suspects are expected to appear before a judge today, although no new information about their impending court appearance has been provided.
This incident serves as a reminder to stay vigilant in public places, especially during late-night hours, and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may be released as they become available.
