Art Deco gem undergoes a color transformation, unchanged for more than half a century due to a freshly designed color palette.

In the heart of New York City's Art Deco district on Fifth Avenue's Upper East Side, a remarkable transformation has taken place. The apartment, previously in total estate condition since 1948, is now a stunning modern home for Linda and Ben McGrath, empty nesters downsizing from their Park Avenue residence.

The renovation project was entrusted to BUILTIN Studio, an esteemed NYC architecture and interior design practice. The goal was to redesign the apartment to suit the homeowners' new lifestyle, offering a layout for flexible entertaining and a breathtaking city view.

The living room and primary bedroom now share a connection, subtly marked by Schumacher's Deco Leaves fabric, a nod to the building's Art Deco history. The main living room showcases matte Venetian plaster walls in a tonal look based on Benjamin Moore's 'Muslin' paint.

The galley kitchen has been connected to the family and dining area, creating a harmonious flow. The dining area boasts a warm, honeyed colour, while the kitchen features darker tones. A banquette seating with a gentle curve was installed to accommodate at least six people, replacing the formal dining room.

Two modern bathrooms were designed for private use by Linda and Ben. Meanwhile, the apartment's layout was updated with modern openings and a subtle pocket door between the primary bedroom and living room.

The makeover didn't just revamp the layout; it also modernised the furniture. One item priced at $27.41 and another at $73.99 (originally $99.99) can be found throughout the apartment. A set of four items, previously priced at $549.99, is now available for $379.99. These items, with sizes ranging from 16" H x 26" W, have received high ratings, with an average of 4.7/5-stars (56 reviews) and 4.9/5-stars (58 reviews).

Despite extensive searches, no information is currently available about who designed and renovated Linda and Ben McGrath's apartment beyond BUILTIN Studio's involvement. However, the results speak for themselves, as the apartment now stands as a testament to a successful modern makeover.
