Talia Byre's Chill Watery Blue Collection Unveiled at London Fashion Week

Talia Lipkin-Connor, the designer behind the brand Talia Byre, showcased her latest collection, titled For Lilly Byre, at the emerging gallery Incubator in Marylebone during London Fashion Week on 22 February 2025. The collection, presented in two intimate viewings to a handful of journalists, featured a unique blend of a chill watery blue palette, merging a headmistress kind of formality with a dash of British 'fuck boy'.

Lipkin-Connor's studio is located in a former bus depot in London Fields. The studio, though small and often with a broken heating system, is bright and filled with inspiration. The design process in the studio is informed by the experiences and preferences of everyone involved.

Talia Byre's designs include flattering knits, deliciously tactile textures, bias-cut stripes, and intelligently constructed feminine shapes. This season, the collection references checks, tweeds, nylon, and ponyskin leather, drawing from sources such as Casino, My Cousin Vinny, and Variety. Memories of Lipkin-Connor's old school uniform came through in ties, kilts, and netball-esque knit bibs.

The collection's title comes from a painting of a relative that hangs in Lipkin-Connor's family home up north. Growing up, Lipkin-Connor heard stories about Lucinda Byre from her grandmother and other women. Lucinda Byre was a multi-storey womenswear boutique in Liverpool from 1964 to 1982. A Lucinda Byre dress from the 1970s informed the checked story in the collection.

Yesterday morning, Lipkin-Connor made the brave decision to talk through the collection as her models moved through the gallery space. The show was inspired by Sonya Rykiel salons, with models animatedly wafting through dark, cosy rooms. Talia Byre's design philosophy honors the history and humor of the women who inspired her.

Talia Byre's designs are worn by discerning 30-year-old Londoners. Lipkin-Connor dreams of having a building where there'd be a showroom, a store, an atelier, and potentially a wine bar. For now, the name of the gallery where Talia Byre held her fashion presentation remains undisclosed.

It's clear that Talia Byre's designs are a testament to Lipkin-Connor's personal history and the women who have influenced her. With each collection, she continues to push the boundaries of fashion while staying true to her roots.
