Artificial Intelligence Advancements Threaten to Render Siri Obsolete
In an exciting development, OpenAI has announced the beta release of a new feature for ChatGPT - the Tasks feature. This new addition, available only to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Team members, is set to revolutionise the way users interact with the AI.
The Tasks feature allows ChatGPT to suggest tasks or reminders based on conversations, such as reminding users to book hotel rooms or pack passports for an upcoming trip. Users have the flexibility to edit the name, instructions, and schedule for created tasks and reminders after they are made.
OpenAI plans to expand access to the Tasks feature when it goes live, making it available to all ChatGPT users. In a post on X, the announcement was made on January 14, 2025. A helpful step-by-step guide with photos has been provided by OpenAI to enable and schedule tasks for those with an active ChatGPT subscription.
Examples of tasks include reminders to work out, renew library books, call a family member, or vacuum the home. The tasks can be one-time reminders or recurring actions, making it easier for users to manage their daily routines.
Interestingly, other AI agents capable of scheduling tasks and reminders typically require a subscription fee or limit services offered for free. However, OpenAI has stated that it plans to make the Tasks feature available to all ChatGPT users for free when it goes live. The cost of the Tasks feature during the public beta version is not yet clear.
As the AI becomes more proactive with the introduction of the Tasks feature, ChatGPT is transforming into a more helpful and efficient assistant for its users. This development is set to redefine the way users interact with AI and manage their daily tasks. Stay tuned for more updates as the Tasks feature continues to evolve.
