Perak Assembly Sitting: Razman Zakaria Excluded Due to Ongoing Suspension

Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid announced today that Perak Opposition leader Razman Zakaria will not be allowed to attend the upcoming State Assembly sitting from September 9 to 11. The reason for Razman Zakaria's exclusion is due to his six-month suspension that has yet to lapse.

The suspension, which was imposed on April 16, was upheld until the next meeting in November. Razman Zakaria was suspended for making slanderous and racially charged remarks.

The press conference, held today at the Perak Darul Ridzan Building, also saw the announcement of the upcoming State Assembly sitting's schedule. The sitting is scheduled from September 9 to 11 and will be held at the State Assembly building in Ipoh.

Two Bills will be tabled during the sitting - the Islamic Religious Schools Control Enactment (Perak) 2025 and the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (Perak) (Amendment) 2025. Both Bills will be presented by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad.

In addition, a motion will be presented during the sitting to appoint Razman Zakaria as a member of the Welfare Committee for Assemblymen. However, Razman Zakaria's ongoing suspension prevents him from attending the sitting.

It is worth noting that Razman Zakaria was sworn in as Ayer Kuning assemblyman on July 31. Despite his suspension, he remains the elected representative for his constituency, Gunung Semanggol.

Furthermore, during the same press conference, the Perak PAS commissioner was referred to a committee for a statement made during the December 2 sitting. The nature of the statement was not disclosed.

Razman Zakaria had previously alleged that Malaysian citizens had raised Chinese national flags at an event in Teluk Intan. However, it is unclear if this allegation will be addressed during the upcoming State Assembly sitting.

Despite his exclusion from the State Assembly sitting, Razman Zakaria's role as an opposition leader and assemblyman continues. The next State Assembly sitting will be held in November, at which point Razman Zakaria may be permitted to return to his duties.
