Kazakhstan Takes the Spotlight at the Astana 2025 World Boccia Challenger
The bustling capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, played host to an exciting event this week – the Astana 2025 World Boccia Challenger. The tournament, under the auspices of the International Boccia Federation (BISFed), serves as a qualifying competition for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles (USA).
In a thrilling turn of events, Astana Itiana Shingishanova clinched the first gold medal for Kazakhstan in the tournament. Competing in the BC2 category, Shingishanova demonstrated her exceptional skills, defeating an opponent from Uzbekistan in the final with a score of 5:2.
Shingishanova's victory was not the only highlight for Kazakhstan. Another Kazakhstan athlete, Almat Yerhat, reached the final in the BC1 category, showcasing the country's strong presence in the tournament.
The tournament featured athletes from various categories, including BC1, BC2, and others. A total of 56 para-athletes from 14 countries, including South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Italy, UAE, Uzbekistan, Cyprus, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and Egypt, participated in the event.
One of the standout performances came from Shingishanova herself, who also defeated a South Korean athlete with a score of 8:3. Her victories earned her the top spot in the BC2 category.
The tournament, which will continue until August 27, is not just about individual achievements. It also offers prizes in the B1, B2, B3, B4 categories, as well as in doubles and team events. This World Cup awards ranking points for participation in the 2028 Paralympic Games, making every point crucial for the athletes.
