In a thrilling display of batting prowess, Australia posted a formidable total of 431/2 in their final innings against South Africa on August 24 in Mackay. This score, the second-highest in Australia's ODI history, required extraordinary batting from the opposition to clean sweep the three-match series.

The star of the show was Travis Head, who scored an impressive 118 runs, hitting six fours and eight sixes, and remained not out until the end of the innings. Head's outstanding performance took his total international runs to 8000, a significant milestone in his career.

Head's partner in crime was Cameron Green, who scored a rapid hundred off 47 balls, setting a new record for the second-fastest hundred in ODI cricket for Australia, surpassed only by Glenn Maxwell's 40-ball ton in the 2023 World Cup against the Netherlands.

However, it was Head's partnership with Alex Carey that truly stole the show. The duo put together a 164-run partnership, narrowly missing the record for the highest partnership for the first wicket for Australia in ODI cricket by 34 runs.

Mitchell Marsh also had a memorable day, completing 3000 ODI runs in 96 fixtures, with an average of 37.03. Although Marsh was dismissed for 100 off 106 balls, he played a crucial role in Australia's high score.

Interestingly, this is the first time that David Warner is not included in an opening partnership that set a record for the most runs in an ODI for Australia.

Despite the impressive performance by Australia, South Africa will need to pull off a remarkable batting effort to overcome the challenging total and secure a series win. The series is currently level at 1-1, with the third and final match promising to be a nail-biting encounter.
