Attempted theft at a budget shop - eyewitnesses needed for identification
In an unsettling incident on the evening of July 16, 2025, a discount store on Scheideweg Street in Gelsenkirchen was targeted by three masked individuals.
The police have identified the Gelsenkirchen Police Department as the force taking over the negotiation for the attempted robbery that occurred at the Scholven-Discount store chain. Witnesses with information about the perpetrators are asked to call the Criminal Investigation Department at 0209 365 7512 or the Criminal Watch at 0209 365 8240. During the robbery, a 54-year-old employee from Dorsten was threatened with a knife and sustained injuries. Another employee, a 30-year-old from Bottrop, was threatened with an electric stun gun. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, and an ambulance was called to provide medical care for the injured employee.
The branch manager, a 28-year-old from Gladbeck, bravely intervened and managed to prevent the suspects from making off with any loot. Two of the suspects fled towards the nearby park, while the third fled on an e-scooter towards Gladbeck. The suspects are described as being between 17 and 25 years old and were wearing either red jackets and jeans or dark or black clothing.
