Authorities are seeking out witnesses and owners for questioning.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 37-year-old man sustained severe injuries after falling into the Aa river while fleeing on a bicycle. The incident occurred near the riverbank in Münster, around 00:10.
The man approached police officers during a patrol on the promenade near the "Zwingers". However, without warning, he suddenly turned his bicycle and fled from the officers. Unfortunately, the police were unable to continue pursuing him.
The man is now under investigation for a series of thefts from basement rooms in the city. A doctor took a blood sample from him at the hospital, and a comprehensive criminal procedure has been initiated.
The police in Münster have secured the suspected stolen items and the bicycle. Pictures of the stolen items are available, and they are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the owners.
The injured man was rescued by the fire brigade and was later taken to a hospital by paramedics. Witnesses and those affected by the incident are asked to call 0251 275-0.
